Ateneo: QUATRE x UAAP Basketball

This photo is from Interaksyon.com

The Ateneo Blue Eagles defeated the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 82-69, in  game 2 of their best-of-three finals series on Saturday to win the 74th UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

With the sweep, the men in blue won their fourth straight UAAP championship, joining the ranks of University of the East, University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University as teams who have achieved the feat. The Red Warriors won from 1965 to 1971, the Growling Tigers did it from 1993 to 1996 while the Green Archers ruled the league from 1998 to 2001.

Today, the Blue Eagles are the kings of the UAAP mountain, and it wasn’t even close. Ateneo won 16 of 17 games this season, and looked every bit as dominant doing so.

FEU tried to make it a fight in game 2, even taking a 36-35 lead at halftime. But the defending champions rattled off a 22-9 run in the third quarter to take 57-45 lead heading into the final period.

Ateneo was never really threatened in the fourth quarter, and led by as much as 19 points several times before the end of the match.

I feel like the most-super-duperest happy person alive today. 4-peat, baby!! That’s all I wanted for this week. And thank Heavens for letting it happen.

This was actually the first of all the games that I watched carefully. (Share: Bec I always skip parts due to severe-nervousness) My eyes were on the TV from the start up to the last moment where in Boom and TJ said goodbye. I was so rejoiced with this outcome, also came teary-eyed especially with how Bacon hugged his dad (Leo Austria, head coach of AdU, the 2nd runner-ups), and got surprised and laughed on how Slaughter grabbed the microphone from TJ.

1st Quarter had been a lame start, just as what I’ve tweeted but I still got a happy and high soul and kept cheering them. 2nd Quarter, little bit disappointed me bec FEU got a lead-with-one-point in the end of the second half. But I still kept praying. But 3rd Quarter was a blast. All players, special mention to the Bench players, who had been unexpectedly-really great throughout the game, were getting their beat and just kept on shooting baskets. Of course I got hyped up but that little voice reminded me that there’s still a Fourth Quarter. And then Fourth Quarter came and signaled already that there was really no chance at all for FEU to come back. Drowned with a 19-point-lead, and 5 more minutes left, who’d come back and take the lead with that case? No one, of course, especially if it is Ateneo who is your opponent.

Anyway. Congratulations to Nico Salva for getting the MVP-Finals!! Although I was really rooting for either of the two: Kiefer Ravena (mylove, chos!!) and Greg Slaughter since they were topping the race to Season MVP. But I’m all contented. Nico Salva finished the 1st game with a perfect stat. Nothing more I could say with that 8/8 and 10/10. Hats off!!

And for my final word, I also want to say my deepest and truest Congratulations to FEU!! You guys are surely crying and sobbing in your dug-out. Loljoke. So bitter. So glad I kept my humbleness all throughout Game 1 and Game 2 but I just couldn’t help posting a ‘Bitter Post’ in Facebook. HAHAHAHAHA. Well atleast I also gave the freedom that I deserve for myself.
