Goodbye Stainless Record– Ohyes. Had no hard feelings about Ateneo losing the game but all I can say is -SAYANG. 😦 😦 We almost had it. We almost had a sweep but unfortunately, Adamson was really ready for today. It turned out that they were the ‘Angrier Birds’ today with Nuyles scoring 21 points. Oh gosh what happened.
MANILA, Philippines – The Adamson Soaring Falcons frustrated the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ bid for an automatic finals berth in Season 74 of the UAAP men’s basketball with a huge 62-46 upset in front of 17,000 spectators at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Falcons ended a 29-game losing streak to the Eagles by giving Ateneo its first loss this season.
Alex Nuyles led Adamson’s spirited charge with 21 points, most of which were poured in during the second half.
He also collared 7 rebounds and gave away 2 assists against Ateneo, which could have won a thrice-to-beat advantage if not for the loss.
According to sports analyst Chris Soler, the last time Adamson won against Ateneo was in 1997 when the Falcons were made up by players like Gherome Ejercito, Dennis Madrid and Eddie Laure.
Final 4 picture
The win cements Adamson to 2nd place in the Final 4 with a twice-to-beat advantage. Ateneo, which was halted after 13 straight wins, remains at No. 1 also with a twice-to-beat bonus.
The two other teams which made it into the Final 4 are University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Tigers and Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws.
The Tigers will face the National University (NU) Bulldogs while the Tams will collide against the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers on Sunday.
If UST and FEU remains tied after Sunday’s game, the Growling Tigers will stay at No. 3 while FEU will be at No. 4 because of UST’s higher quotient.
The only way UST loses its status as third seed is if it loses to NU.
